A fine Maryfield Park gallery from Harley Freemantle

The ground is situated behind New Abbey Primary School, and is a compact yet tidy little venue. There is a large clubhouse consisting of changing rooms, a referees room and an equipment store. It also has a large 'tea room' facility with space for around 30, that affords a good view of the action on a wet day. There is also a small amount of covered hard standing at the front. A pair of training lights are mounted behind the near goal, whilst the other end has netting attached to catch balls from going beyond into the farmers field, and the pitch is flanked by a series of white posts used on match days to rope the pitch off. Two large dugouts are at either side and straddle the halfway line. The ground is over looked by Criffel, to the north, and Sweetheart Abbey, a couple of fields away to the east.

Club Information:

Annan Athletic have a first team playing in the East of Scotland League and a reserve team playing in their original (by geography) league, the Southern Counties League (though there is an arrangement in place that means Annan must play their strongest XI available for South football, much to the annoyance of other clubs when it comes to midweek games). Their gates number around 100. Annan had a spell in Junior football shortly after forming but when the Dumfries Junior FA disbanded they were forced into English football, playing in the Carlisle & District League but joined the Southern Counties FA in 1977. Their stay in South of Scotland football was brief, as they joined the two-tier East of Scotland League set-up ten years later in 1987, and won the lower division at the first time of asking. The club applied for membership of the Scottish League but were unsuccessful.

Annan Athletic's 1st team are allowed to enter the Tennents Scottish Cup.

Three views of Cassencarrie Park's club buildings from Harley Freemantle

Castle Cary Park might be one of Scotland's most rural venues. The ground is basically part of a farmers field, with a tiny two-roomed changing room building, a referee's room and a refreshments hut the only buildings.

Social Club: yes

Club Information:

Originally a side called Barholm Rovers played in Creetown, and upon their disbanding in 1905, Creetown Rifle Volunteers took over their Barholm Park ground. They became Creetown FC in 1920.

Creetown generally get around 35 to 40 for home matches at Castle Cary Park.
They failed to renew their SFA membership at one point and when they reapplied, their ground was deemed unsatisfactory. It hadn't been upgraded by the late 1990s, and complaints were made by other clubs regarding the facilities in the changing rooms (no hot water) in May 2000.

Club Information:

Stranraer Athletic formed in the mid-1990s in order to provide local players with the chance to play football within the town. Stranraer FC had by this point begun to build a team full of players from the Central Belt, thus limiting the chances of youngsters progressing in Stranraer. A large amount of players left Wigtown & Bladnoch and Newton Stewart to play for Athletic. A crowd of 100 witnessed the first home game.

Stranraer Athletic are not allowed to enter the Scottish Cup.
