Perennial strugglers Coltness United renamed themselves 'Newmains United Community FC' in June 2006 . They took a year out in July 2007 after going into financial difficulties and returned for 2008-09.

Newmains United CFC are the first Scottish club to have come to an agreement with MYScotFC (My Scottish Football Club), an online venture that allows supporters to have a say in the day-to-day running of a real football club (an English side involved in a very similar scheme is Ebbsfleet United).
